Mary Kilfoil, Speaker during the Interactive Breakout Session – Customer Discovery #1

Dr. Mary Kilfoil is the Director for the Norman Newman Centre for Entrepreneurship (NNCE) and the Lead for the Launch Dal programming at Dalhousie University. Mary has over 20 years of experience in the private sector as an entrepreneur and consultant for both start-ups and government – and has authored several reports and publications in the fields of innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic policy. Her passion for entrepreneurship continues since joining Dalhousie University where she received Start-up Canada’s National Entrepreneurship Educator Award in 2014.
Mary led the team that brought the Starting Lean Course to Dalhousie University in the Fall of 2012 providing an experiential approach to entrepreneurship by combining Lean Launchpad methodologies, a flipped classroom, and accomplished mentors – and was listed in Academia’s Top 10 courses in Canada 2013. She has also launched a campus-wide Innovation course based on Design Thinking principles. Outside of the classroom, Mary has launched extensive extra-curricular experiential entrepreneurship programming known as Launch Dal, including Canada’s Business Model Competition, the $100K Competition, Collide year-round accelerator, and an on-campus student startup accelerator (LaunchPad) for early stage ventures.
